Obituary clipping found taped in the front of a book in the DAR Library called "The Stillman Family in the United States of America" by Henry L Jones.
In Westerly, R.I. Aug. 1, 1886, Maxson Johnson Stillman, oldest son of Eld. Christopher C. and Mary Ann Stillman, in the 55th year of his age. He was born in Hopkinton, R.I., spent the larger part of his boyhood in New London, Connecticut, and then with his parents, became a resident of Westerly. When a boy, he was amiable and scholarly, and often won prizes for scholarship. When about 11 years old, he became a Christian, was baptized by Eld. Lester Rogers, and joined the Waterford Church. On his removal to Westerly, he joined, by letter, the Pawcatuck Church, of which he remained a member till death. Having a thirst for knowledge and a desire for a good education, he became a student in Alfred Academy in her palmy days, and graduated in 1853. After his graduation, he was a book-keeper in one of the banks of Westerly, and also for a manufacturing firm in Ashaway, but finding this too confining, he went with a number, into the book-agency business in the West. While canvassing for books in Michigan, some thirty years ago, be took malarial fever, returned home and was an invalid the reminder of his life, most of the time confined to his room and bed. He was not a great sufferer, but his physical forces were broken down. He had been the subject of unremitting care of fond parents for those long years, making his departure the more deeply flet. He was ready to go at his Master's call, and is in the glory land, where there is no diease. His funeral services were conducted by the writer, with remarks upon 2 Cor. 5: 1-4. O.U.W.
