Lydia Hunter (1830, No. Ireland - 1911, Bridgeport, CT) married William H. McAlpine (1827-1878) and lived in Litchfield Co., CT. Their daughter Anna M. McAlpine (1865-1936) married Ensign C. Stillman, around 1882-1884. Their son William James Stillman (1885-1920) was born in Plainfield, Hartford Co. Both Anna's and William's CT death certificates list Ensign C. Stillman as husband and father, although in the 1900 census, Anna lived in Bridgeport and Ensign seemed to be in New Britain (he listed himself as a traveling salesman). I have no record of the marriage itself, just Anna's assertion on her death certificate (for which she supplied the information!) that he had been her husband, and she is listed as his widow in several Bridgeport directories). I have searched diligently and have found no other Ensign C. Stillman who could be Anna's husband and William's father. Joanne Gaudio - June 2008
