On May 5, 1909, Charles A. Stillman, at the age of 84 years and 3 months.
Charles A. Stillman was the son of Adam and Lydia Spaulding Stillman, and was born January 30, 1825, in the old Stillman house on Berry Hill, between Westerly and Potter Hill. On October 4, 1846, he was married to Esther V. Babcock, who died March 18, 1853, leaving two children, G. Edward and Lucius. He was afterward married to Eliza C. Stillman on November 30, 1855 [1854], who survives him. He leaves a sister, Mrs. E. Clarke Saunders of Westerly, a brother, Asa of Seattle, and three children: G. Edward of Plainfield, N. J., E. Herman of Westerly, and Mrs. James C. Hemphill, with whom he made his home. Last January Mr. Stillman had a fall which developed other troubles, chief of which was a hardening of the arteries from which he died. He joined the First Hopkinton Church in 1840, and on moving to Westerly, in 1852, transferred his membership to the Pawcatuck Church, of which he was a member at the time of his death.
The funeral service was held at his late home on Sabbath day, May 8, conducted by the pastor. C. A. B.

In Westerly, R. I., March 18th, Esther Vernelia, wife of Charles A. Stillman, aged 24 years and 8 months. In her early youth she made a public profession of her faith in Christ as her Saviour, and united with the Seventh-day Baptist Church in Scott, N. Y. On the 6th of June, 1845, she became a member of the Seventh-day Baptist Church of Pawcatuck, which relation she sustained to the time of her death. Her piety was of an unostentatious character, yet manifested itself in those forms which gave to those who knew her best a firm assurance that the principles of Christianity were deeply rooted in her heart. Having for a number of months previous to her death felt, and frequently expressed to her friends, a premonition that she should stay but a very short time with them, she manifested a diligence quite unusual to set her house in order for the approach of death. When it came, she met it with Christian resignation, and we hope fell asleep in Jesus. A. B. B.
"The Sabbath Recorder", Vol 81, No 21, p 671, Nov. 20, 1916.
In Westerly, R. I., September 21, 1916, Mrs. Eliza C. Stillman, in the ninety-first year of her age.
Eliza C. Stillman was the daughter of Phineas and Thankful Gardner Stillman and was born in Clarks Falls, Conn., in 1826. Early in life her parents moved to Potter Hill, R. I. This was her home until marriage to Charles A. Stillman, November 30, 1855 [1854], from which time she resided in Westerly.
While living at Potter Hill she was converted and, on baptism, united with the First Hopkinton Seventh Day Baptist Church, from which she took a letter to the Pawcatuck Church of Westerly. She was a quiet, industrious, faithful Christian woman, interested in the life of the community and of the church. She had been for many years a worker in the Woman's Aid Society until age prevented her activity.
She was the mother of two children: Mrs. James C. Hemphill, with whom she was tenderly cared for, and Herman E., also of Westerly. Besides these there were two step-children whom she had helped to rear, both now deceased, one recently, - George Edward, of Plainfield, N. J.; also one granddaughter, Mrs. Martin Austin, who died twelve years ago.
Funeral services were held at the home of her daughter on Courtland street, September 23, and burial was in River Bend Cemetery. C. A. B.

Hello, I ran across your website while compiling "The Descendants of John Amazeen of New Castle, NH" (not yet published), looking for information on the Asa S Stillman who married Isabella Amelia Whitton on 21 June, 1860 in Boston (MA Vital Records 1841-1910 vol. 137, p. 74). Isabella was born 18 Dec, 1835 in Boston, the daughter of Francis Whitten (this spelling used just as much as the other) and Hannah Amazeen. I noticed that your website has the last name as Whittier, and just wanted to send this corrected surname along to you. There was also a family file on Ancestry that quoted your site, and I let them know of the proper spelling.
Sincerely,
John Dow
