Alfred Stillman was an inventor and had several patents used in extracting juice from sugar cane--and one for a safety fuse used on steam boilers. Ironically, Alfred was killed in a ship boiler explosion in New Orleans, LA. The "Knoxille" was a side wheel riverboat which was demolished in 1850 by a boiler explosion while departing New Orleans. The Knoxille was launched in 1848 in Louisville, KY and was 200' x 28' x 6.5' with a displacement of 349 tons.
