History of the State of Kansas; Chicago: A.T. Andreas; 1883 page 409 Joseph F. Stillman, farmer, Section 8, P.O. Nortonville. This able agriculturist is a native of Rhode Island, and was born March 16, 1831; was reared and educated in his native State and resided in the eastern country until 1870, when he came to Kansas. He embarked on farming in Riley County, continuing for four years, when he came to Atchinson County, locating where he now resides. Mr. Stillman is a genial and popular gentleman and one of Center Townships most progressive citizens. He was married in 1866, to Miss Ada C. Burdick. They now have four children - Edwin, Joseph L., Phebe, Benjamin,and Maggie. Mr. S. and his family are members of the Seventh Day Baptist Society.

Mrs. Phoebe (Stillman) Mills, a deaconess in the Hammond, La., church, was born at Nortonville, Kan., May 9, 1876, and died at Hammond on Dec. 25, 1964.
She was married to Rollo Mills in 1914. Her husband preceded her in death. Affectionately known as Aunt Phoebe in the church and community, she taught school in the area from 1906 to 1937.
Mrs. Mills is survived by a sister, Mrs. Margaret Eggers, of Hammond; two brothers, Ben Stillman of Carlsbad, Calif., and Arthur of North Loup, Neb.; a stepson, Wallace Mills of Houston, Tex.; two granddaughters and six great-grandchildren.
The Rev. H. Earl DeLand, pastor of the church, was assisted in the farewell services by the Rev. Fred Kirtland of Paint Rock, Ala., and the Rev. Ralph Hays of Metairie, La. H. E. D.

Rolla John Mills, last of nine children of Samuel T. and Sarah Greene Mills, was born in Waushara County, Wis., October 23, 1860, and died at his late home, Hammond, La., Mar. 16, 1942.
The family moved from Wisconsin to Minnesota in 1863, and when a young man Rolla was baptized and united with the Dodge Center Seventh Day Baptist Church. On moving to Louisiana, over fifty years ago, he transferred his membership to the Hammond Church, where he remained a faithful devoted member.
He was married to Katie Green at Dodge Center, in 1880. To this union were born six children, four of whom survive. His wife died in 1910.
In 1915, he was married to Phoebe Stillman at Hammond. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, three sons, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted by Dr. W. U. Holley, pastor of the Federated Church. R. J. S.

Funeral services for Arthur M. Stillman, 90, were conducted Monday at North Loup. Mr. Stillman died Feb. 23 at Ord.
The Rev. Victor Skaggs officiated at the 2 p.m. rites at the Seventh Day Baptist Church. Rev. and Mrs. Mynor Soper sang “In The Garden”, “Saved By Grace” and “Nailed To The Cross” accompanied by organist Mrs. Louise Brennick. Pallbearers were Hillis Coleman, Victor Cook, Vernon Williams, Melvin Williams, Udel Williams and Horace Williams. The Ord Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery at North Loup.
Born at Nortonville, Kan. On Oct. 21, 1882, Mr. Stillman was the son of Joseph and Ada Burdick Stillman. He married Matie Williams on Jan 1, 1903 at Gentry, Ark. And this year the couple observed their 70th wedding anniversary. The Stillmans homesteaded in Oklahoma for several years and in 1910 they moved to Valley County in a covered wagon.
In the North Loup area, Mr. Stillman had been active in many community affairs. He served as a school board member of District #1 for 23 years; served as a deacon of the Seventh Day Baptist Church for a number of years and was past president of the North Loup Cheese Board.
Survivors include his wife Matie of North Loup; sons Edgar of Scotia and Merlyn of North Loup; daughters Mrs. Iva (Elery) King and Mrs. Ada (Victor) King both of North Loup; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, two brothers and one sister.

Matie F. Stillman was born December 12, 1882 at Orleans, NE to James and Abigail Fuller Williams and died March 6, 1979 at the Ord Rest Home at the age of 96.
She moved with her family to North Loup as a child where she attended school. After receiving her education, Matie moved with her family to Arkansas. She was united in marriage to Arthur Stillman January 1, 1903 at Gentry, Arkansas. They lived in Oklahoma for a few years where they homesteaded, then came to North Loup in a covered wagon in 1910. North Loup has been her home with the exception of the last three years when she was a resident of the Ord Rest Home. Matie was a member of the North Loup Seventh Day Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Edgar of Scotia and Merlyn of North Loup, two daughters, Mrs. Elery (Iva) King and Mrs. Victor (Ada) King, both of North Loup; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, one great great-granddaughter; and one brother, Bert Williams of Ord. She was preceded in death by her husband on February 23, 1973, two sons, two granddaughters, one brother, and one sister.
Funeral services were held Thursday (today), March 8, 1979 at 2 p.m. at the Seventh Day Baptist Church in North Loup with Rev. Victor Skaggs officiating. Mrs. Louise Brennick was the organist for Mrs. Jeneane Abel as she sang, 'The Old Rugged Cross', 'How Great Thou Art', and 'In the Garden'. Pallbearers were Vernon Williams, Udel Williams, Horace Williams, Harold Williams, LaRoss Williams, and Harwood Rice. Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery at North Loup with the Ord Memorial Chapel in charge of arrangements.
