OBITUARY
Sacred to the Memory of Deacon Brother Thomas Stillman.

Brother Thomas Stillman was born in Old England in the year of our Lord 1801, August 13th and from England he sailed to America in 1919 or 1820 [inaccurate as per above link]. He, in early life professed Faith in Christ, and was baptized into the fellowship of the Baptist Church in Charleston, S.C. by Elder B. Manly.

And it came to pass in those days, that he went up the country, and was married to Sister Mary Ann Ward in 1834. And after those days, he moved to Alabama and settled in Fayette County and was united with the Baptist Church at old Bethel and in this church was ordained a Deacon. After this he united with the church at Rock Mt. and in this church he remained to the day of his death, which was sudden on February the 10th, 1878. Age 77 years 6 months and 5 days.

The church has lost one of it's brightest stars, because Bro. Stillman was a constant and consistant Baptist always at his post. He was faithful and punctual to attend his meetings. He was strict, firm, and yet kind in the government of his house and lived to see all his children profess faith in Christ and all baptized in the fellowship of the Baptist church. He was a faithful, loving companion. He was a kind and affectionate father. But the good Lord saw fit to remove him from out midst. Yea, he is gone from the evils to come and gone to that bright world above where there is no weeping there. Therefore, we humbly submit to the will of God and tender our sympathies to the bereaved family.

Resolved therefore that this obituary notice be entered into our church book and a copy be given to Sister Stillman and 6.

May 23, 1881 -- Entered into the church book this 22nd day of June, 1881.
